As I was praying about what to blog about this morning, two scriptures came to my attention. These scriptures are from the ministry of Jesus and notice what they say.
Mark 4:35 (ESV)
On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.”
Jesus knew He had more work to do so He told His disciples, let us cross over to the other side. Our work at this place is complete, and now it’s time to move.
Now, look at what verse 37 says.
Mark 4:37 (ESV)
And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.
A fierce and turbulent storm arose, right after Jesus told them what He wanted to do. Basically, here’s what happened.
* Jesus said it’s time to cross over to the other side.
* A storm arose.
These two verses not only tell a story of a storm trying to hinder Jesus, but I find the same sequence of events happening today. There comes a time when God is telling us; it’s time to cross over to the other side. The work where we’ve been is finished, and our ministry must move on. Jesus never stayed in one place very long, and He does not want us to get content where we are either, spiritually speaking. It’s not just what God wants to do, but what He wants to continue doing in us and through us. That only happens when we respond to His voice saying, “CROSS OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE.”
However, you might as well get ready for it, because as soon as you start to cross over, a storm is going to arise. You will get on the boat, ready to fulfill what God has called you to do, and suddenly you will fill the wind pushing against you, trying to keep you from going forward. The lightning and thunder will try and scare you and make you feel like you’ve made a mistake. There will always be a storm to try and keep you crossing to the other side.
I’m so glad the story doesn’t end there, and neither does yours. There is one more verse that completes the story.
Mark 4:39 (ESV)
And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
It didn’t happen immediately, but after a while, Jesus spoke to the storm, and everything calmed down. That day, the Master proved, when He says it’s time to cross over to the other side, no storm is going to keep it from happening. Even though the winds and waves were attacking them, God’s Word was more powerful than the opposition.
Maybe that’s where you are today. You’ve heard the voice of the Lord, and you’re trying to cross over, but a storm has attacked your family, your ministry, or your church. Don’t let the weather make you doubt the call of God. It’s ok to be afraid; it’s not ok to turn back. Keep going because you’re obeying His command, and I promise you, THE SAME VOICE that told you to cross over to the other side is getting ready to say “PEACE BE STILL.” He will never let a storm keep you from fulfilling His will in your life.
