DON’T FORGET

As I’m starting my day, I can’t help but think about so many people in need of something from God. The requests are numerous and some times I have a hard time remembering all of them. Because I’m a pastor and very active on social media, I receive all kinds of emails and texts from people asking me to pray for them. I can’t always recall their names, but I am so moved by their needs and ask God to help them or the person they’ve requested prayer for.

Not just other people, but me and my family have needs as well. I could list them in this blog. I could go one by one and tell you the things that we are currently praying for. I could also list the things that I’m praying for in the future. Things that I’m not sure how they’re going to turn out and I’m very burdened about it. My wife and I have four daughters, one son and one son-in-law and there are many needs that a family this size has. We battle things like, asthma, high blood pressure, cholesterol issues and other things that many other people deal with.

As I was going over the different needs in my life and many others that I’m aware of, I was reminded of something very important. I don’t want to be so consumed with current needs that I forget the blessings of God. If I’m not careful, my conversation with God will be about what I need Him to do and not what He’s already done. I can’t just come to Him with petitions, I should also kneel before Him and thank Him for the countless blessings He has given to me in my life.

I’m not suggesting that we stop asking Him for healing and miracles, I’m only trying to remind you that even in the midst of all your trouble, if you would take the time to look back over your life, you would see how great God has been to you. Maybe you’ve been so busy asking for things, you’ve forgotten to be thankful. I challenge you to take a few moments this morning and remember some of the incredible things that God has done for you and your family. You may want write some things down so you don’t forget them.

As a minister, I could began to tell you about the goodness of the Lord. I could start a list and begin to name them one after the other. I could remind you of His healing power in your life and the times He made a way when you didn’t think you were coming out. There are all kinds of things I could write, but the truth is, when He reached down to where we were and saved us by His incredible Grace and washed our sins away through His blood and filled us with His Spirit…that was the greatest miracle in our lives.

PSALMS 103:1-2
1Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.
