“DO THE RIGHT THING”

We’ve all heard the saying, “DO THE RIGHT THING.” No matter what you’re faced with or even how you are feeling about something, nothing is more important than making sure you’re doing the right thing. Sometimes all you have after a situation is knowing you did what was right. You might not be happy or even like how you were treated by someone, but ask yourself this question; did you do the right thing?

I’ve experienced both sides. There have been times when I let my emotions get the best of me I ended up saying exactly how I felt to someone. Afterwards, you would think I’d feel good about it, especially if I was innocent. But instead, I felt horrible. Being right about something and doing the right thing is sometimes two separate things. The goal is not always to be right, but to do the right thing.

There have been times when I held my tongue and chose not to defend myself, but I did my best to maintain the right spirit. I’ll admit to you, that it is extremely difficult to not stand up for yourself, especially when someone is challenging you. The Bible tells us that a kind word turns away wrath, but it isn’t always easy to find or even think of something kind to say in that situation. However, when it’s over, and you’ve had time to calm down and think about it, you feel good knowing you did the right thing.

I don’t know who this might be for today, but if you’ve recently gone through something similar, ask yourself the question; did I do the right thing? If you didn’t, there might still be a chance for you to fix it. But if you did what was right, that’s all you need. You might have moments when you’re thinking about the past and wished you would have said this or that, but I can promise that as time goes on, you will be glad you did the right thing.
